Malaysia’s move to strengthen Solar ATAP is timely, especially in a period of global energy volatility. Today, rooftop solar should be seen not only as a renewable initiative, but also as a practical way to improve energy self-sufficiency and reduce exposure to uncertain electricity costs.
For households, wider adoption can be supported through better incentives and broader use of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to strengthen household energy resilience. For businesses, further progress can also come from practical financing support and zero-capex models.
Looking ahead, solar should be viewed as part of a broader energy resilience strategy. The direction is right. The next step is to make adoption faster, more investable and more impactful.
